STILLNESS
This stillness and the beauty all around me
Bring with them peace and grace for which I yearn;
For here among the lakes and mountains resting
I sense my hopes and dreams will now return.
For now I’ve reached a time when life has bitten,
Reminding me of pleasures once enjoyed;
Since lost in cares and daily obligations
How Nature can supplant and fill the void.
Its healing powers I know and cannot question;
They bring delights I cannot bear to miss.
They sing to me of other loves and places,
And speak to me of other times than this.
Many of us will identify with this

Thank you, Derrick. Your own blog and photographs also amply confirm what you say.

Thank you Roland for this beautiful post. I too love Lake District and the stillness and mystery around the lakes. They seem to have different “souls” somehow. Your words “Its healing powers I know and cannot question;
They bring delights I cannot bear to miss.” are so true and beautifully written.
Your drawing conveys the stillness just sitting and let it all flow in. You are good!
Miriam
p.s. oddly, I have posted one this morning about similar feelings on a mountain 🦋😊

I think we both have those feelings, as did Wordsworth of course, about the calm contemplation which natural beauty can engender. Thank you for your appreciative comment, Miriam.

Wonderful poetry and artwork Roland. I have spent time on and around Rydal Water and this took me back to those times. Your pen and ink picture captures the tranquility of the lake.

Thank you, Davy. I hope that, without plagiarising, my poem caught something of the Wordsworth mood/feeling. He, of course, a fellow-countryman of yours, moved to live at Rydal Mount after his earlier days in Cockermouth and Dove Cottage.

It is a beautiful lake and surrounding countryside Roland and a great place to inspire poetry.

Each of us have need of ‘that special place’. Thanks Roland for sharing yours.

Yes, indeed, Jerry. Used to go there about once a year at one time, but haven’t managed to get to the Lake District in recent years. Thanks for commenting.
