The future
will never be
as we envisage it.
will never be
as we envisage it.
That fact is a given
a constant
by which we will fall
if we do not recognise
its truth
and act accordingly.
a constant
by which we will fall
if we do not recognise
its truth
and act accordingly.
Hope
and aspiration
may well prop up
the present,
but they
are not the answer
to that ultimate question –
‘What does the future
hold in store
for me?
for us?’

A nice post Roland, it struck a chord with me in the midst of my own current reflective posts. The associated image is very apt, people thinking their future is the responsibility of someone else …… sums up the current times!

Thanks for your wise response. I do dislike the emphasis on the future belonging solely to the youth of today. It does also belong to ALL generations..

Profound. Could we have envisaged our own?

. . . Well, certainly not my own! Thanks for commenting, Derrick.

Dream, but don’t make dreams our master’ – paraphrasing Rudyard Kipling.
Thinking on your wise poem it occurs to me that no one really knows what the future holds
in store. Yet we dream and plan forward.

The joy is often greater in the planing and expectation. ‘it is better to travel hopefully than to arrive.’ RLS.

I am delighted that this comment went through, quite a number don’t.
Wordpress? ….. or a nick up on the journey.

Yet another WordPress aberration to be borne, Miriam.
