An Act Of Creative Disappointment

I sit and I look at my keyboard,
That world of words unexplored,
The umbilical cord to my computer,
All else completely ignored.

I stare at those magnetic keys
As they draw me into their world;
And so often to start I just freeze,
Before slowly ideas are unfurled.

As enlightenment slowly is born
My fingers react to my brain;
At their touch then the words will emerge,
A true feat of legerdemain.

Every jot, every tittle I fix;
The whole keyboard is hot to my touch.
Then I look at what I have written –
Do I like it? – No not very much!

A Secret Sonnet

‘Moonlight Tryst’ – WHB: Pen an ink, Dec.2017

A SECRET SONNET

They stressed my heart and bled it
Seeking to find you there,
But try as they could to discover
They never will find out where
You hide in lonely seclusion,
Your impregnable lonely lair.

For you are my cerebral lover,
Living a life in my brain;
We hold our trysts in the moonlight,
Let them look for ever in vain,
They never ever will find you,
For there is nought to explain.

Just a salve to pain and depression,
A caprice with a discreet confession.

The Brain is a Lonely Place

‘The Brain is a Lonely Place’ – WHB: Pen & Wash Dec.2017

The Brain is a Lonely Place

 The brain is a lonely
whispering place
Tended solely by me
No one else can be allowed
To trespass on this hallowed ground

It is forever mine to keep
Forever secret
Shy
Demure
Locked and sealed
Never revealed

The home of thought
Of hopes
Of passion
Never in
nor out of fashion

Existing solely
to be just me
My being’s essence
My life’s one key.

And so
As life approaches death
It concentrates on what it is
That is about to cease to be
Concluding only
Whatever is lost
It will be for others to count the cost

[ My apologies if the ‘approaching death’ phrase which I use in the last verse startles anyone.   Hopefully, I am thinking in generalised terms, and projecting into the long term.  Well – we are all doing just that from the moment we are born – are we not!? ]

“ . . . A Robin Redbreast in a Cage
Puts all Heaven in a Rage.
A dove house fill’d with doves and pigeons
Shudders Hell thro’ all its regions.
A Dog starv’d at his Master’s Gate
Predicts the ruin of the State.
A Horse misus’d upon the Road
Calls to Heaven for Human blood.
Each outcry of the hunted Hare
A fiber from the Brain does tear . . . ”

… All wholesome food is caught without a net or a trap
Bring out number, weight & measure in a year of dearth.

No bird soars too high, if he soars with his own wings.
A dead body revenges not injuries …
