Thought for the Morrow

Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.
King James Bible . . . Matthew 6:34. ‘Sermon on the Mount’

Yes … Tomorrow is another day
One more locked-down day to bear
While for me the world outside attempts to hide from view
Yet I know that
Somewhere The sun shines,
while elsewhere snow’s warmth blankets the tumbling hills
The rain is working its vernal wonders in the forest
and the world’s waves beat upon its brackish shores

My life’s sideshow cowers in lockdown’s shade
The life I once learnt to live fades
And a new one awaits
Granted by science and by human endeavour
A new path to wend – to explore
A road less travelled
which I must learn to love
The old well-tbeaten ways no longer lead to certainty
only to danger and distress
And so
amidst a tangled understanding of right and wrong
The future lives on in uncertainty’s haze

AMEN

where does it end
when does it end
know that it never does
never will
there’s always more
more of the same
more that differs
more that extends into yet more
it is the very nature of existence
and reality remains without end
for dead or alive
we she he it
there is only Infinity
and infinite tomorrows
forever everlasting eternity
bending into time without end
AMEN – So Be It

As The Year Ends

AS THE YEAR ENDS

Dark the swollen river runs
Under the bridge’s shades of grey.
Slate sky condemns the passive scene
Draining colour from the day.

Tree silhouettes outline my view
Their winter ribs bared to the frost
December bids the old year gone
With no regrets for what is lost.

The year expires; bid it goodbye,
It brought distress, re-kindled fears,
It promised much it failed to give,
Left little hope and many tears.

So now, in hope of better times,
Tomorrow holds the future’s key.
New perspectives flood my view
Blue skies as far as I can see.

APHORISMS:  On consideration of the Nature Of TIME

When Yesterday’s dream
BecomesToday’s reality
All mystery is lost.

When life’s great passion
Turns to dust
Is life still worth the living?

When tomorrow’s goal
Is reached today
How empty becomes the future.

When life and love
are intertwined
Where does pleasure end?

When age has killed
youth’s certitude
What price is placed on doubt?

When yesterday’s promise
Turns into today’s disappointment
It becomes tomorrow’s regrets.

In The Here And Now

REMEMBER: . . . Tomorrow was Today Yesterday!

Yesterday
Has passed away;
Tomorrow is yet to be

So let Today
In every way
Be the best of three.

For when it’s gone
Remember well,
Never comes Tomorrow;
So live your life
In the here and now,
There’ll be time enough for sorrow.

What is Happening?

What is Happening?

The ordinariness of life
As day succeeds on day,
Now grips more than it ever did
And fear is just a sneeze away.

What is it that tomorrow brings,
How trenchant is life’s grip,
Will time refuse to stumble on,
Is now just a minor blip?

Or is this really Armageddon,
Is it what was foretold,
Has fate at last revealed itself,
The future to unfold?

On Incarceration

Now shackled by government edict.

Banned from life’s open air,
No more a future to predict,
No more a life I can share.

Sent to my room to protect me,
Locked in my cage like a bird,
Yesterday only a memory,
Tomorrow has now been deferred.

Those plans I had for tomorrow,
Expectations I’d promised to meet,
Turned into today’s plangent sorrow
As into my shell I retreat.

As Touch becomes a scabrous word,
And washing hands a must,
My world’s become absurd,
As I’ve become nonplussed.

The Next Time

The next time
will always be
the best time
Anticipation
feeds
breeds
on expectation

Tomorrow will be
better than Today
Yesterday’s
revitalised
successor,
Itself refurbished,
re-burnished.
with new hope

To travel hopefully
into an unknown world
of conjecture
and hypothesis
is to have faith
in uncertainty

And Optimism
is given to us
to make the future
bearable

Waving Goodbye

Waving Goodbye

Tomorrow threatens not to come

And so I grab at life Today

That ever was Man’s threnody

Through Doubt and Hope to make our way.

And when in truth all light has passed

And Darkness fills the Void with Fear

I realise with certainty

That then, at last, my God is near.

Those who remain to carry on

Carry the Labyrinth’s thread on high,

So human life is held in thrall

Forever set to wave Goodbye.

TODAY

The past is a bygone world;
Tomorrow still does not exist.
Life is about our today,
When thoughts of all else are dismissed.

What’s happening now is what matters;
Don’t let what has passed hold sway.
The future will care for itself,
What’s important is living today.

For today is our life in a nutshell,
So spend no more time in the past.
Let the future look after itself,
Let today be the one that will last.
